About the Session
This presentation will expand the EMDR therapist’s understanding of the development of an eating disorder and enhance case conceptualization and treatment planning. It hopes to encourage the attendees’ comfort and freedom in engaging in the dance of healing, especially while assisting a highly defended and suffering system. It summarizes the role of trauma, attachment, and dissociation in the development of an eating disorder and outlines an often-layered collection of negative experiences that underlie eating disorder thoughts and behaviors. This presentation encourages using resource development throughout the eight phases of EMDR and all phases of treatment. It discusses the benefits of correlating resource development installation with positive feeling states created by eating disorder behaviors to enhance stabilization. It demonstrates techniques to foster understanding, respect, compassion, and collaboration within the system of parts while gently desensitizing defenses to access and heal touchstone experiences and disowned parts of self.
